Apple iPod touch 64GB Model now Available

Price drop, added storage - what next, Apple?

Apple stalwart Phil Schiller took to the stage to introduce the next range of iPods, but not before bamboozling us with some interesting facts. The iPod now has 73.8 per cent market share in the US, with Microsoft taking just 1.1 per cent of the pie.
"Just over 50 per cent of the customers are new to the iPod, it’s their first iPod’, Schiller claims, going on to say the iPod Touch is the "fastest growing of the iPod line". "To date we have now sold 20 million iPod Touches, in addition to the 30 million iPhones".
Boasting of the gaming capabilities of the iPhone and iPod Touch, Schiller said the Sony PSP has just 607 titles, the Nintendo DS 3,680, and the iPod Touch and iPhone has 21,178. Impressive stuff.
Assassin’s Creed 2 was demoed for the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms, which will be available later this year. Users can take photos from their image library and upload it to the game, using it for in-game “art”, such as a “wanted” poster on a wall.
Bart Decrem, the CEO of Tapulous, took to the stage next to show off the next Tap Tap game. Boasting a million players just three weeks after Tap Tap Revenge was added to the App Store, Riddin Ribbon looks set to follow the success. Like an amalgamation of Wipeout and Tap Tap, it looks pretty decent.
Mark Hickey from Gameloft showed off their next big game, Nova, which will allow for multiplayer use.
EA is generously putting their Madden NFL game on the App Store, which is a real boon for Apple. Looks a touch boring to us, but then we never really understood NFL anyway.
"There's something for everyone" on the Touch and iPhone, Schiller says, with over 21,000 titles for games and entertainment in the App Store.
"$199 is a magic price point in the iPod market", Schiller said, announcing that the iPod Touch will be lowered in price to just $199 for the 8GB model. For $299, customers can get a 32GB model, and for just $399 a 64GB model will be added to store shelves. It will be up to 50 per cent faster in "almost everything you do". "This is what the next generation games will be using", apparently.
Moving onto the iPod Classic, they're now offering a 160GB model for $249. The iPod Shuffle, meanwhile, will be available in five colours from today, with black, pink, green and blue joining the silver model. $59 for the 1GB model, $79 for the 4GB model. A special edition stainless steel model will be available also for $99, with 4GB of storage.
