Windows 7 to Boost Hyper-Threading Technology
Microsoft has officially announced that the upcoming Windows 7 operating system will offer improved support for hyper-threading technology.
Bill Veghte, Microsoft’s senior VP for Windows development, said that the company has been working closely with Intel to bolster Windows 7’s ability to get the most from hyper-threading, according to Informationweek.
“The second thing that we’re excited to announce in terms of the cooperation and the work that’s been done is around hyper-threading. And obviously the work that Intel has done around hyper-threading across a multi-core system is absolutely critical for you. And so the work that we’ve done in Wondows 7 in the scheduler and the core of the system to take full advantage of those capabilities, ultimately we think we can deliver a great and better experience for you,” said Bill Veghte at the TechEd conference earlier this week.
Hyper-Threading is an implementation of simultaneous multithreading that allows processors to juggle two logical threads per physical core. The technology brings improved support for multi-threaded code, allows multiple threads to run simultaneously, and improves reaction as well as response time.
Besides Core i7, Intel also plans to feature Hyper-Threading to 45nm Core i5 (Lynnfield) and 32nm Westmere.
