YouTube gets Find a Friend Functionality

Send those comedy dog moments to friends and family

YouTube is going a little further down the social networking route, offering up a list of friends and family who might be interested in that amusing video clip you've just found.
Not a million miles from Facebook's 'people you may know' feature, YouTube is introducing a 'you may know these people' list on the homepage for ease of sharing clips. But how does it know who your friends and family are? Voodoo? Spying? Nothing quite so exciting we're afraid.
According to a post on the YouTube blog, Elizabeth Windram, Senior User Experience Designer, says: 'If you've logged in to YouTube and sent a video to a friend's email address, or if you have your YouTube account linked to a Gmail account, we will use this information to help identify your friends who already have YouTube channels. You'll only see channels whose owners have allowed themselves to be found by others who have their email address.'
So if you don't have YouTube and don't log in, you're not going to see anyone. If you are the opposite, expect friends aplenty showing up, just as long as you've got lots of contacts. No strict date for it as yet, although you can expect to see it 'in the next few weeks'.
