Palm Unviels Pixi, Second webOS device
Despite yesterday being a very much an iPod day for the industry, Palm launched a product of its own. The Palm Pixi is the company's second WebOS phone (after the Pre, of course) and should be available in time for the holidays.
So what makes the Pixi not just a second generation Pre)? For one, it should be significantly cheaper. Given that Sprint just gave the Pre a nice little price cut, dragging the tag down to $149.99, we'd imagine the Pixi will retail for around the hundred dollar mark.
You're looking at 8 GB of storage onboard, a 2 megapixel camera with flash, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 320 x 400 capacitive display that measures in at around 2.6-inches, a removable 1150mAh battery and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Various hands-on reviews say it's lighter than the Pre, but appearance-wise, it's slightly longer. Measuring in at 0.43-inches thick, the device is slimmer than an iPhone and is your standard candy bar phone. In other words, it's not a slider like the Pre. The Pixi has GPS, but no Wi-Fi, which is kind of a bummer. This second WebOS device is a Sprint-only device, just like the Pre, which is also kind of a bummer, but there you go.
As a side note, those of you who like the fact that you can get arty designs on your Dell or your Zune HD will be pleased to know that the same goes for the Pixi. Palm has five flavors you can choose from.
