Would Sony be Announcing PS3 Slim today !!??

Cheap PS3s for all

We've been tipping it to happen for sometime, but the arrival of a cheaper PlayStation 3 console could be hours away and yes, it's almost certain to be the much-rumoured PS3 Slim.

Sony is set to announce the new console at a three-hour press conference in Germany later today and as the name suggests, it's likely to be smaller and slimmer, with a price cut for older versions of the PS3 also rumoured to be incoming. Indeed, you can probably find one now if you look around at places like Amazon and Asda, the latter currently offering an 80GB PS3 and two-game bundle for £250. If consoles are suddenly getting cheaper, something is happening, either widespread price cuts or a new machine. More likely, both - and tonight is the night it all gets confirmed.

Three hours is an awfully long time to stroke a shiny new console, which indicates Sony has other console-based tricks up its sleeve. New games titles for the Christmas run-up could be shown off (Gran Turismo 5 for example), while there's also talk of Sony bringing its on-demand video store to Europe and possibly some new add-ons for consoles old and new. We're obviously just speculating, but all will become clear in a matter of hours. Then we'll see what the other console makers do in response. It just might end up being a very good time to buy a games machine.
