Sony Ps3 Slim comes with a Better upgraded Cell Processor

Not just a facelift for Sony's powerhouse machine...

Shrinking the originally beastly-sized Playstation 3 has caused quite a stir. The PS3 Slim - small and squat in its matte black finish – may have had us all guessing for the past year or so, but now it officially exists, and a lively beast it is too.
The Cell processor that lives within the PS3 is a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba and IBM, and it’s a world-endingly clever bit of kit. Word is though, that the Cell in the new PS3 Slim is a superior processor to the ones found in its heftier brother.
An IBM spokesperson has revealed that the new Cell chip is the product of a ‘45nm’ manufacturing process, instead of the old ‘65nm’. Sounds confusing, but the upshot is a whopping 40% less power usage, and a 34% decrease in chip size. There’s no official word on processing speed, but rumour has it that this new form factor makes the whole shebang run a mite faster.
Not only that, but the new process makes the chip cheaper to produce, which is the main reason behind the surprisingly low PS3 Slim asking price. We hope this means that more price cuts aren’t out of reach in the future.
