Sony PS3 Slim Announced !!

The worst kept secret since PSP Go is official
Sony has officially unveiled the long-awaited PlayStation 3 Slim at GamesCom 2009 in Cologne. Kaz Hirai took the stage to pull the svelte console from the podium and finally put rest to the rumours that have been running amok these past few weeks.
After so much speculation and excitment, there wasn’t much that needed to be said. The PS3 Slim is 32 per cent slimmer, 36 per cent lighter and consumes 34 per cent less energy than ever before. The first proper pic is just in, revealing a fresh matte black finish and a condensed PS3 logo.
It will also be packing a 120GB HDD, a decent upgrade from the current 80GB and should prove its worth when Sony launches the PlayStation Store Video section later in the year - which will launch with titles such as Star Trek, Harry Potter and James Bond. Users will be able to buy or rent them, and play them on the PS3 or PSP in high-def or standard-def.
Prices were also announced: £250 for the PS3 Slim in the UK, which isn’t bad compared to the price in Euros, which is EUR299, but less so compared to the US, $299. Oh well, it's what we've come to expect from Sony. All current PS3s now cost £250 too, however Sony's going to have to convince customers to spring for the fatter, less spec'd console over the PS3 Slim if they're the same price. We'd expect bundled games and accessories, at least.
Launch date looks set for the first week of September, however the price reduction on the previous PS3 will go live on the 19th of August.
