Price Cuts : Xbox 360 Elite Falls to $299; Pro Falls to $250


It's officially official, folks. The Xbox 360 Elite has dropped $100 off its sticker is now $299.

The price drop was rumored for months, which will take effect starting August 28, 2009. Priced at $299, the Xbox 360 Elite, with its 120 GB hard drive and black casing, is now pitted head to head with the new PS3 Slim, which also features a hard drive of the same capacity.The new price at $299 also puts it at the price point held previously by the Xbox 360 Pro SKU. Existing Xbox 360 Pro stock still at retail will now be reduced by $50 to $249.
"With the holiday season right around the corner, it's already time to start looking for entertainment and gifts that everyone will enjoy," said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of strategy and business development for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "If you're looking for deep experiences that don't require deep pockets, now is the time to purchase an Xbox 360. We've got the best games, a vast library of TV shows and movies, new music experiences, more ways to connect friends and family, and so much more on the horizon including 'Project Natal' — no controller required."
